Virtual Neighbour

A virtual event using 3D modelling technology

Virtual exhibition

Role: Production and Design Direction

This experimental exhibition took place during COVID lockdown. It took place in the Living Object gallery which was a repurposed home, refurbished for the purposes of this event.

In this innovative art exhibition, the ‘gallery’ extends its boundaries beyond physical walls. Virtual Neighbour occupies four digitally created ‘houses’ that ‘adjoin’ the Living Object gallery. Using 3D modelling technology, each house shows the digitally realised work of one of four artists.

Wholly adapting to the challenges of working in digital space, the artists used a range of techniques, employing software to model, scan and visualise their works. They also worked closely with Philip Hughes to install the artworks in the gallery space, maximising the potential of scaling the models within the space to create juxtapositions and contrasts.

‘Visitors’ to the space were invited to join the exhibition over Zoom. The visitors were taken on a virtual journey that took them from a real space into the digitally created space.

The Virtual Neighbour exhibition was highly successful event that pushed the boundaries of virtual experience.
