Alára X Brooklyn Museum

‘A glimpse into the lived world of African fashion, art, and design’

Living Object were delighted to collaborate with renowned fashion icon Reni Folawiyo to design the Alára experience at Brooklyn Museum for the duration of the Africa Fashion exhibition.

This showcase features extraordinary merchandise made by African artists from across the African continent. Living Object were commissioned to designed a pop-up store to showcase artwork, tableware, furniture and clothing in parallel with the Africa Fashion exhibition. 

The design helped to support the unique Alára look-and-feel and was a collaboration with Alára’s in-house graphic team. Reni Folawiya speaking to Vogue magazine said, “The store is Alára’s living version of the exhibition by giving a glimpse into the lived world of African fashion, art, and design…We will open people’s eyes to the incredible creative renaissance that is growing in Africa and how seamlessly it functions as a part of the global conversation of style.” 

Sills Foundation curator of African art and Africa Fashion co-curator, enthused about the pop-up store, “Visitors can appreciate the artisanal beauty of designers within the exhibition who have never been confined to their physical spaces and constantly push what it means to be inspired by Africa, then enter Alára, where they can continue to enjoy the work in a very tangible way.”
